WHY JOINING THE BOOK CLUB?

2024

HOW DOES IT WORK?

2025

  • STAY CONNECTED: To join, follow us on Instagram and keep up with our announcements there. Each month, we reveal a new theme - such as Exploring Asian Heritage or Honoring Horror - and select four books ranging from timeless classics to contemporary works, bestsellers, and often overlooked voices.

  • YOU DECIDE THE BOOK: Once we announce the shortlist, you’ll have the chance to vote for the book you’d like to read. The chosen book is then announced along with the meeting details: venue, date, and ticket fee. Ticket fees vary depending on the location and whether food or drinks are included.

  • PREPARE TO DIVE DEEP: You’ll have 3-4 weeks to read the book. During this time, I’ll share reading guides designed to enrich your experience. These include the author’s biography, historical or social context, reviews from critics, and even lesser-known details about the book.

  • THE GATHERING: At our meeting, we’ll spend around 2 hours discussing the book. Together, we’ll explore our thoughts, feelings, and critiques in a relaxed atmosphere.

  • REPEAT: Once the meeting is over, we begin the process again - with a new theme, a fresh selection of books, and another opportunity to connect over the love of reading.

WHAT HAVE WE BEEN READING?

Reading in January

Following the life of a young writer, Esther Greenwood, The Bell Jar chronicles her descent into depression as she grapples with challenges of identity, mental health, and pressing societal expectations - especially those concerning women in 1950s American society. Plath’s use of the ‘bell jar’ as a metaphor for mental illness and suffocation remains one of the most powerful symbols in modern literature.

November

A psychological horror classic that delves into fear, isolation, and the supernatural. Renowned for its subtle horror and atmospheric writing, it is a profound exploration of human vulnerability and a cornerstone of Gothic fiction.

October

Follows twins Estha and Rahel, as their lives are shaped by tragedy and societal norms. Through a blend of personal struggles and cultural prejudices, the novel explores how small moments can have lasting consequences.
